- Salary: $13k - $13k
- Job Category: Senior Pastor
- Job Status: Full-time
- Education required: Seminary/graduate degree
- Experience required (years): 5
So you want a man with $50,000 worth of seminary training plus 5 years experience,
plus and undergraduate degree, to move to an economically depressed area and work full time for $13,000.
I hope this is a mis-print. Otherwise, I would not sit by a phone waiting for the call.
I can just imagine what went on in the board meeting that came up with this bright idea.
What you are doing is called, Muzzling the ox.

THE REPLY
Thank you for your assesment of our church. I assume you will not be applying.
I have a EdD in educational administration and am serving as the church secretary, School Teacher, Search Committee Member as well as numerous other activities. I receive no payment - I do this work because I love the Lord.
I will share your encouraging views with our Board.
Sincerely,
Dr. George James

Wow. That's very honorable for Dr. James to do as he is for the love of the Lord, however, it does not support a family of seven. I think that your assessment is not only fair, but should be an eye-opener for the church board. This being said, I'm glad you and the family are not moving to Wellston. God has something better for you, all in His time.
My first thought was,
"You have your reward...Dr."
I think the salary they list is about $13,000 too high.
What then is my reward? That in my preaching I may present the gospel free of charge, so as not to make full use of my right in the gospel. (1Co 9:18)
Perhaps Arthur,
But don't mandate a Seminary education.
This post made me giggle and sigh with deep sorrow all in one moment.
I think the saying is: Been there... done that.
Why do we (the church) force our leadership into poverty and hardships and call it godly...
Seems like the whole I have a plan for you... prosper you and to give you a hope and future thing gets lost in this type of translation of "carrying the cross of Christ Jesus"
While I'm broke and barely able to feed my kids, should I find a good heathen to whip me... just for extra rewards in heaven. I mean... lets either get totally literal or call religious nonsense what it is.
Even all that said, I do give Dr. James props for answering in seemingly gracious terms.
