Evangelism

How do you begin evangelizing your community? If you needed to start from ground zero, where and how would you begin?

Community involvement: going to school board meetings, plant some flowers in the park, help with parades, etc????

Events to draw the community to your place of worship: Musical concerts, special speakers, dinners, comedians????

I believe the answer to this is yes and no. We are called to be salt and light in our community. But salt with no light is pointless as is light with no salt. Evangelism must be WORD driven. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ for IT is the power of God unto salvation.

What good does it do to sponsor a basketball tournament and parade for the community if God's Word is not set forth in clarity?

I think we cannot escape the primacy of preaching in our evangelistic efforts. Faith coming by hearing and hearing by the word of God. And how shall they hear without a preacher? That is not to say that community participation is not necessary and helpful, but the focus should be putting the word out, planting the seed that God would give the increase.

Lifestyle evangelism is important. Loving your neighbor can never be ignored. But God saves sinners through the gospel being explained to people. We help illustrate the gospel by our works but we must have a goal to gain a platform to share the message of redemption.

Grace to you,

Joe
