"We have somehow got hold of the idea that error is only that which is outrageously wrong; and we do not seem to understand that the most dangerous person of all is the one who does not emphasize the right things."

Agree or Disagree?

Agree. The obvious lies are the easiest ones to spot. It is the subtle lie, the change and tweak here and there that is harder to detect. Someone in the church who tells people that there is no God is easily noted. But the one who teaches creeping heresy, man centered idolatry while couching it in religious speak can poison the hearts and ears of people for years before being discovered. The loss of the Word in churches makes it so much easier to tell the small lies, and a small lie is as damning as a big one.

Agree. The most able liars are those that adhere to the truth as closely as possible. A church worshipping Baal is easily labelled heretical. A church straying "slightly" from the Gospel is still labelled a "Christian" church. The critic of these churches is often labelled arrogant and rigid. Both face the same judgement, however. Sound doctrine is vital.

Disagree. Man loves to believe the unbelievable. Remember the curious case of Sidd Finch, the Sports Illustrated prank pulled on April fool's day in 1985. It was a wildly unbelievable story but believed by most until the joke was reealed. This may explain the growth and crazy attendance of recent "drunk in the spirit" so-called revivals.

I think the more searching application to the statement is to examine our individual lives and determine what it is that we are emphasizing. It is easy to see that Jack VanImpe emphasizes eschatology every time that he opens his mouth. I think it is a key to a balanced Christian life and ministry to declare all the counsel of God but to obviously emphasize the gospel, the glory of God in our lives, and perfecting holiness.

Joe, I appreciate your efforts on your blog. You definitely have a gift for creative writing and catching attention. If you would only emphasize the right
